Position Description

Assists to develop, integrate and document structural and interior payload system requirements to establish the system design. Develops, maintains and modifies basic structural and interior payload system and component designs, using 3-D Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools and/or other design methods, to provide product definition to other engineering groups, production operations, suppliers and external customers throughout the product lifecycle. Performs tests to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications. Assists with supplier development, test and production activities and coordination with the supplier to optimize the design and achieve program goals. Supports investigation of emerging technologies to develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements. Works under general supervision.

Analytical Skills

Skill and ability to: collect, organize, synthesize, and analyze data; summarize findings; develop conclusions and recommendations from appropriate data sources at the work group level.


Computer Aided Design Tools

General knowledge of computer aided design tools and systems (e.g., computer aided design/computer aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM), computer aided three dimensional interactive (CATIA), Mentor Graphics, Unigraphics). Able to manipulate data sets, (e.g., compare CATIA to measurement data, create stereo lithography files).

Typical Education/Experience

Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's and 2 or more years' experience or a Master's degree with experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Other Job related information

Prefer ABET accredited Engineering degree in Mechanical, Aeronautical/Aerospace/Astronautical or Civil. Prefer CATIA 3D CAD experience.
